Ian Hayes – Artist Interview
We chatted with surf cinematographer and drone enthusiast Ian about his favorite gear, clips, and burritos!
Hey Ian, tell us how you got into film and photography.
I had just left my engineering job and moved into a house full of skaters and surfers, the rest is history.
What type of gear do you use?
I use the DJI mavic pro drone for shooting from the air, I use a NikonD3300 when shooting from the beach.
Where’s your favorite place to shoot?
I can’t say my favorite place because it’s a secret! But proper Newport wedge is an easy 2nd place!
Who’s your favorite person to shoot?
Blair Conklin has been by far the most entertaining to shoot with, mainly for the sandside commentary.
What is your favorite photo/clip/edit you’ve captured?
My favorite clip has to be from the day Blair got a 3 trick combo and the sickest liner in front of his house.
Who/what inspires you?
Progressive Surfers and other cinematographers
Any tips for up and comers into photo and film?
Smile, film everyone, and always bring headphones!
Tacos or burritos?
